Park Test Files #2, Blizzard 2009

Central Park
Activities:
I rose early on Saturday the 19th because all of the weather forecasts indicated that we were in for the real deal, a Nor’easter with intense snowmaking capabilities, and I didn’t want to be stuck without a sled for the Park Test Team. There are iPhone apps for many things, but locating a sled is not one of them. I was ultimately successful acquiring the sleds and by Saturday evening the blizzard had arrived with full force...it was clear we were in for some prime sledding come morning.

And so on Sunday AM we set out amidst 11” of fresh powder...destination Central Park...ETA...uh, somewhere between 15 minutes and never depending on how the
Urban Assault Stroller (UAS) handled the towering snow banks and unplowed sidewalks. Thankfully the UAS was up to the task, and it even mounted our new sleds supremely well.

The most commonly referenced sledding hills in Central Park are Pilgrim Hill (72nd & 5th) and Cedar Hill (78th & 5th). My test team did not feel the need to go past The Dairy (65th & mid-Park), which has a gentle slope good for younger kids. Our greatest success though was just marching around the park itself. The streets and paths had been swept, not scraped, leaving the perfect surface for dragging our new Paris 626 Toddler Sleds. And obviously the Park itself was simply stunning to see. here.

It was a great adventure for us and holiday season kickoff, and it inspired us to make sure that
iParks NY includes all the best sledding sites in the 5 boros. Send your thoughts to reviews@iParksNY.com! And Happy Holidays!
